Do you want to build a bridge to the future? Join the Wellwood Conservancy team and help to build a beautiful suspension bridge across Willow Creek in the Copper River Basin of Alaska! With a graceful, slightly-arched, 70-foot span, this pedestrian bridge will be the central connection for the trail system at Wellwood Nature Preserve.

Donations by check can be mailed to Wellwood Conservancy, HC 60 Box 227, Copper Center, Alaska 99573.

People who visit the Nature Preserve to appreciate the natural world or to participate in Wellwood educational programs will be able to enjoy the full trail system from any access point. Wildlife, including beavers — who regularly build dams, ponds, and lodges in this section of Willow Creek — will benefit, since the height and length of this bridge will allow them to continue their activities, undisturbed by issues of human access and observation.

Although Wellwood Conservancy is a small organization, it tries to keep its focus on the big picture of human success on a healthy planet. This big goal will be attained in many small steps. For Wellwood Conservancy, the steps are largely taken at Wellwood Nature Preserve, where people may come to experience the natural world, to learn the principles of stewardship, to discuss the problems besetting humanity, and to discover personal paths of meaningful contribution. This is the path to the future. Because this new bridge will help this progress, we think of it as a “bridge to the future,” symbolically connecting humanity to better, brighter years ahead.

Work on this bridge has been on-going for some time, through stages of design, construction of footers, and installation of cable anchors. Will you become a part of the Wellwood team and move this project to completion?
